Eggs poached in a spicy tomato sauce soak up the flavors of paprika, cumin, and chili powder, with fresh peppers, garlic, and onion comprise this classic Middle Eastern Dish. Our Shakshuka Sauce forms a well-seasoned tomato sauce base for a classic, delicious shakshuka. Local variations can include additions of olives, sheep's milk cheese, spicy sausage, or lemon, though we like to keep it simple.

Shakshuka is another iconic dish with rich history and many regional variations. It is popular across the Middle East but actually originates in the Maghreb region. The Maghreb specifically refers to the Western edge of the Arab world, including Morocco, Libya, and other countries located in Northwestern Africa. Shakshuka most likely was invented here in the mid 1500s after the introduction of tomatoes from the New World, though many countries now claim its invention. Regardless of its exact origins, it is now beloved around the world.

This Shakshuka sauce contains:

  • Water
  • Tomatoes
  • Olive Oil
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Green Bell Pepper
  • Spices (including paprika)
  • Salt

To use, heat the sauce in a heavy pan until just boiling. Turn the heat to low and crack three eggs directly into the sauce, poaching until cooked. Serve with a topping of parsley,
